What a Week

This has been a tough week in the news. Multiple mass shootings in the same day. A horrific and deadly fire in an public apartment complex in London. Someone bombed a kindergarten in China. A young woman was found guilty of manslaughter for encouraging her boyfriend to commit suicide over text message. But Philando Castile’s killer was found not guilty.

The rollback of civil rights investigationsThe change in U.S. policy towards Cuba. The revocation of DAPA.

Not to mention the daily deluge of information regarding the sinister undoing of what we thought were core American Democratic standards.

These are just a few of the stories dominating the headlines, and each one is triggering for different people in different ways. What should you, as someone studying for the bar exam, do about all of this?

Should you go march for justice for Philando Castile? Only if you’re caught up on your bar study assignments and use it as your weekly break.

Remember that your focus needs to be on your studies now.

Let every act of injustice give you the resolve you need to keep going.

Let the deep human pain of oppression remind you of why getting your law license is so important.

These are exactly the reasons why you are doing what you are doing. Sit this summer out, so that you can be on the front lines for the rest of your life.

Take care of yourself. These are tough times.
